I’m off playing about in the wilderness for the weekend. Are ya jealous? 8-)
This weekend is year-end camp for the Cubs and the weather looks pretty good. Showers ending today, then sunny for both Saturday and Sunday. We’ve had quite a range of weather over the few years that I’ve been involved and thankfully, it’s warm enough to actually camp (as opposed to sleeping in the mess hall). Even if it pours rain.

I invested in some good gear over the winter and this will be my first outing with the new tent. Our 15-year-old one finally gave up last year and left Doug (another leader, Chil) and I floating. Neither of us are sleep swimmers, so dry is kind of a must.

The camp theme is based around the Green Star, a collection of badges all related to camping and outdoor skills, and we have a variety of things planned. Teaching the boys enough about using a compass to get them through a simple orienteering course will be an adventure in itself. :-)

One of my duties is is to take care of First Aid. As the First Aider, I collect all medication from parents as the boys arrive and dole it out as necessary. This year’s been pretty simple: only a couple of emergency puffers. There hasn’t been a lot of patching kids together again either. LOL

I’d say I was jealous, but I read your after-report first!

We still have and use the canvas “pop” tent that my folks used prior to my arrival (the family outgrew it when baby made 5).  I happen to love it, even though it is an absolute bear to set up, because I can stand up inside that tent.  We discovered years ago that we need several tents when we go camping: at minimum, a kid tent and an adult tent, so that old pop tent still gets used.  It’s probably more than 50 years old!

SuperDad went camping with the Cub Scouts a few weeks ago. I conveniently left town. ;)
