Being Canadian has some distinct advantages. Among other things, it’s not illegal to download mp3s. I’ve availed myself of this particular privilege for a very long time and I’ve happened upon some really interesting music along the way that I wouldn’t have otherwise found. Charlie Winston, for instance. He’s a Brit signed to Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records label. I downloaded his CD, Hobo, a month or so ago, but hadn’t really had a chance to listen to it until this morning on my way to work.
Wow.
His music is kind of a cross between folk and white-boy soul with a shot of gospel and harmonica blues thrown in for good measure. Check out the first track on the CD: In Your Hands:
