A Bit About Me

I'm a father of two, husband, an IT professional, old-school hacker, reformed photojournalist, autodidact, beer brewer, beekeeper and a general pain-in-the-ass. I prefer the more general term of "weirdo".

Welcome to my brain. Enjoy the ride and please fasten your seat belt.

OK, fine. A bit more info. Epcot (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) was the second park that Disney built in Orland and opened in 1982. It’s a combination of concepts in that it’s built to celebrate technology and innovation as well as the some of the world’s cultures and customs.

There are 11 pavilions in a circle around World Showcase Lagoon: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, The American Adventure, Japan. Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada.

We’d heard some giggling about the Canadian spot and we went there immediately. We weren’t disappointed. This nice young lady is from Calgary and while she admits that she’s never worn this combination of cliches at home, their uniforms are amongst the least goofy in the park. I’ll tell you, the last thing I expected to see where all of the staff in Greb boots and red & black plaid. Yikes.

One of the highlights was finding out the the young lady who introduced the film is from Gananoque, a town about 30km east of us down the 401.

The movie is a must-see, by the way. Presented in “circle-vision”, it’s an excellent showcase of what Canada’s really about. Martin Short takes the viewers from coast to coast, checking out the big cities and poking holes in stereotypes the entire way. One of the highlights for me was an amazing helicopter shot along the St-Lawrence River through the 1,000 Islands and under the Ivy Lea International bridge.

Note to Disney Imagineers: we do not have bright red British telephone boxes here. In fact, with the proliferation of cell phones, telephone booths altogether are disappearing. Oh, and there have never been wild tigers roaming about up here. Please redesign that silly Canadian Voyageur version of Pluto that you have in the gift shop. Your ignorance is showing.
