I may have a new theme song for the blog.
Mose Allison is legendary. His songs have been recorded by the Who (“Young Man Blues”), Leon Russell (“I’m Smashed”), and Bonnie Raitt (“Everybody’s Cryin’ Mercy”). AllMusic says he suffers from a “categorization problem”, but I’m really don’t think he gives a damn. He just writes and plays what he writes and plays. Whether it’s straight-up jazz or some fusion of be-bop and boogie-woogie, it’s all Mose.
The man turned 82 last November and has a new album coming out. I heard the first single in the car tonight and just had to share:
