Well, veg and living, yes. Holidays celebrating a Brit who was brought to Ireland as a slave, escaped, became a priest, returned to Ireland and ran the snakes out of the country? Not so much.
St. Patrick’s Day is just a day where too many people wear green, they do weird things to beer at the pubs (green food colouring? Ewww!) and the Irish get all festive and drunk. Like they need the excuse.
March 17 does have some significance for this Scots Canadian, though. Every year, I’m thankful that I had the patience to be born on the 18th of March instead of the 17th. Otherwise, my father has assured me I would have been named Patrick. Ugh.
So, enjoy yourself if you’re Irish or want to be. I’m quite happy with who I am and I’ll save my partying for tomorrow.
St. ME Day!!
I’ll take green beer over Haggis any day…
did you just say it is almost your birthday????
Paddy’s day is about celebrating Irishness and having a laugh and a pint – what’s not to like?!
Yeah, it’s tomorrow, Gary. Not a big one: 41.
Lou, my Dad’s a Campbell and Mom’s a Gordon. Not much room for Irish there. Plus, I figure I’d rather have “a laugh and pint” whenever I feel like it.
